Yesterday was Australia Day. Hence, a public holiday.
What is Australia Day? It’s the day Australia was discovered, where Captain Cook arrived in Australia by sail and discovered this continent. Exactly when, er… I do not know.
Anyway, so we had a day off and supposedly to put up a BBQ to celebrate. Unfortunately, the weather was very hot so I don’t know if many people did since there was a total fire ban. Oh well… I spent the day indoor, of course. I caught up with video games.
I was pretty busy lately. My stepdad and mum went to Perth for a one-week holiday. I looked after our dog of course but she hated to be left at home alone. So, I had to get up early to take her to my stepdad’s office, where she normally goes every day. I arranged people to take her home after work so I didn’t need to rush to get her. But I walked her when I get home and then made dinner for myself, etc… the whole lot didn’t finish until around 8:30pm if I were lucky.
My knee is holding up pretty good against all walking I have been doing these days. I strapped it with a knee brace to help support it. It feels better when I walk with a brace on but it still hurts when pressure is applied on the knee. I still go to my regular acupuncture treatment. The doctor reckons there is a small scar underneath the patella tendon where it was hurt. He couldn’t confirm it in the MRI scan but he thinks it is there because of my history with scars.
It’s interesting to hear him explain. He explained that he noticed my scar near the kneecap. He asked me if I get scars easily from small cuts or any small injury. I told him I do get scars very easily and often, such as pimple scars. He told me that there are people who are prune to skin damage such as scars because of the body’s ability to grow tissue.
He thinks there is a scar developed or is developing where the tendon had a small tear before. This is only from guessing. It’s impossible to confirm this because there is no way I can get a scan that picks this up. If MRI can’t pick it up, what else can?
He suggested some Chinese health pills to help increase my body fighting “scars development”, so to speak. It’s really hard to translate what he’s doing but he’s hoping to stop the scar growing so that he can start treating the existing scar. If this is true, he thinks in two months time, we can see the difference. He doesn’t recommend I do any impact sports such as tennis.
He thinks it is too soon for me to go back to running. Swimming is my best bet if I want to start doing sports.
I still can’t decide whether I want to talk to my sports med doctor about this and see what he suggest we can confirm what is hindering the recovery. The initial concern was the swollen fat pad but that has definitely recovered. This is the last hurdle, I reckon. The Chinese doctor explained that the patella tendon is the hardest tendon to recover in our body because it is the thickest tendon in our body. Besides, we use it so often for walking and even just sitting down.
Anyway, I’m going to try to reduce overusing the knee for now. Swimming sounds good so I’ll stick to it for a while. Besides, I couldn’t get hold of my tennis coach anyway so I guess it was a sign.
I’m going to keep this short. Will write more on the weekend.
