Free gift? Why bother…

Recently, I realised that it was time for me to get a proper bluetooth handsfree for driving. So I surfed the web again looking for a bargain. After researching for a trustworthy bluetooth, I settled on the reliable BlueAnt Z9i. I found the headset on eBay for just $16.99 + postage (came to roughly $37). The RRP price for a brand new Z9i is $99. So, it’s definitely a good buy. :) The headset was advertised as a never-used unit. It also came with a free gift 3 replacement ear gels (sized L, M & S). I thought this was a great bargain because the replacement ear gels can be handy.

I waited for about 2 weeks to get the headset. When it finally arrived, I tried out fitting the Small ear gel. After struggling for 30 minutes, I finally gave up. The original one fits my ear so I really didn’t have to replace it but I just want to find out if the ear gels really work.

So I wrote to the seller, asking for instructions on how to fit one of those ear gels on. To my amazement, the seller replied telling me not to replace the ear gels because they are not for Z9i. 8O They explained that these gels were for one of the Jawbone bluetooth headset models. They gave them out as free gifts because they initially thought they would fit so ordered a lot of them to sell. But when they tried it out, they really don’t fit at all. So, they gave them out as free gifts since they had many of them lying around. They continued to tell me if I didn’t want the gels, I could return them and they would refund me AUD3. :| They even warned me not to use them on my Z9i.

Right, how dumb was the seller? They charged me $3 for something that won’t even work properly on my frigging Z9i. I of course didn’t really return the gels. I pretty much will put them in the bin.

Now, why bother with the free gift? The concept of free means there’s no charge. I seriously LOL’ed  when they told me “please do not use it on the Z9i”.

I didn’t make it difficult for them of course, I just accepted their reply and left 5-star feedback on their eBay too. I did pay 1/3 of the price for the headset, and it works beautifully (for now). So, I shouldn’t complain about the price. I’m merely amazed at how the term “free gift” can be misused like that.

Oh well… :|

Where the wild things are…

When I saw this movie Where the Wild Things Are out on DVD/Bluray, I thought I should check this out coz it might be good. Well, I finally bought the movie last week and watched it over the weekend. Here is what I think…

I watched the movie without really knowing what it was about, and needless to mention I didn’t even know it was based on a book. I thought the movie started off quite intensely. The kid was obviously an attention seeker and so the story started.

The story was OK, and definitely a (weird) fantasy story. It’s not my cuppa tea. :) The characters were good though. I liked how they could be good friends despite of each others’ differences. The story really focused a lot on the friendships between all the characters. I think it is the downfall for me.

The story was so focused on their friendships, it neglected to explain why there were these creatures on a remote island? How did they get there? How by absurd chance that Max (little boy) could mysteriously sailed a tiny boat to this remote island, which seemed thousands miles away from his home? There are many more questions and I won’t get into them.

The story was just incomplete to me, probably was why I don’t quite like it. :| I guess it’s because its target audience is young children. The story doesn’t have too much depth because the kiddies might not understand it. :)

Apart from the movie I watched on the weekend, I didn’t do any wild things at all. :P I tidied up my bedroom and caught up with some sleep.

Let’s hope next time I write, I will have more wild things to tell. ;)
